Chiefs coach Nabi clarifies ‘main position’ for Glody Lilepo
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has made a clarification on the ‘main position’ of Glody Makabi Lilepo who’s been deployed as a winger since he joined the club.
The DR Congo international attacker joined Amakhosi during the January transfer window, arriving from French third-tier club Valenciennes FC.
He has swiftly made a significant impact on Chiefs’ attack, contributing three goals and one assist in eight appearances across all competitions.
While primarily deployed as a winger, questions have arisen regarding Lilepo’s primary role, with confusion, at times, as to whether he is a centre-forward or a winger.
Following Amakhosi’s 0-0 draw against Cape Town City FC in the Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, Chiefs coach Nabi clarified that Lilepo’s ‘first position’ is indeed as a winger.
However, Nabi acknowledged that Lilepo has demonstrated versatility, having previously played as a striker, notably during his time with Valenciennes.
NABI – ‘…BUT THAT’S NOT HIS FIRST POSITION’
“I think the first position for him is a winger – right, left, but really, he is a winger,” said Nabi. “Sometimes in France, he played as a second striker at Valenciennes, but that’s not his first position.”
Meanwhile, Nabi expressed his frustration after his side’s struggles for goals in their match against CT City.
“Today [Wednesday], in the last 20 minutes, we pushed [Pule] Mmodi on the winger, and we pushed more players into the 18 [area]. I think you observed it,” he added. “We continued to create more chances, but we couldn’t score. It’s not dramatic, but it’s very bad because it’s not the first time we have a chance to go up [the table], and we drop points.
“If you remember, at the start of the season and now, the same mistakes are continuing. You have a chance to go up [the table], but you lose this chance.
“Sometimes you need evaluation on why and what is the problem because today [Wednesday], the normal score [could have been] 3-0 or 4-0.”
