Inacio Miguel’s off-pitch role under Nabi revealed
Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has revealed his off-pitch role at the club assigned to him by head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The Angolan international has been an ever-present figure for Amakhosi since joining them at the start of the season.
The 29-year-old defender has captained the side whenever Yusuf Maart is unavailable. He is considered one of the senior players in the team. Interestingly, the Portugal-born defender seems to share a close relationship with the young players in the team.
WHAT IS MIGUEL INACIO’S OFF-PITCH ROLE UNDER NABI
The former Petro de Luanda centre-back revealed that the technical team had asked him to play the role of mentor to the club’s development graduates.
Nabi has consistently played youngsters from the academy who include Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala and Samkelo Zwane.
“They will come in future to help the club, to keep growing,” Inacio said. “My job now is to help them to learn, to grow and to improve. For me that’s the most important thing right now. I was once on the other side, I was a young player.”
He considers it important to maintain close ties with the youngsters. “It’s important to be close to these – Vilakazi, Shabalala, Zwane, Duba. I like them, the way they see they can go longer than where they are.
“That’s the most important thing that the technical team tell me that if I can do that part of the job, I’ll do it for sure. They need us more than I need them. “It’s very important to be close to them, to be an older brother to them. They’re the future of Kaizer Chiefs. They’re the present and will be the future as well.”
Inacio will be hoping for maximum points when Amakhosi travel to KZN to take on Richards Bay FC on Sunday, 16 March at the King Zwelithini Stadium [15:30].
