Sunday Chidzambwa: ‘Billiat will have a point to prove…’

Ex-PSL and Zimbabwe coach Sunday Chidzambwa believes Khama Billiat has a point to prove when The Warriors face Bafana Bafana at AFCON.

Khama Billiat successfully revived his career in Zimbabwe last year while in the books of Yadah FC. He has since crossed floors to Scottland FC, where he is expected to star in the 2025 PSL season.

The 34-year-old is also expected to spur The Warriors of Zimbabwe in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They face Benin and Nigeria in March. Moreover, they were drawn in Group B of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON]finals to be staged in Morocco.

In this group, they face Bafana Bafana, serial AFCON winners Egypt and Angola, in a group they are the natural underdogs.

WHAT CHIDZAMBWA SAID ABOUT BILLIAT’S MEETING WITH BAFANA BAFANA

And for the former Black Leopards coach, Chidzambwa, this is another chance for Billiat to show his rare qualities.

“Of course, he is an already accomplished player, but we have a young squad at the moment. And I expect him to lead and rise at the same time,” Chidzambwa told FARPost. “You know, by remaining in the Zimbabwean league, people in some circles believe he is no longer good enough. They think he is no longer influential.

“He may be in the twilight of his career, but honestly, he has another chance to prove that he is a rare breed.

“And also facing Bafana Bafana makes it more interesting because South African fans will be keenly watching to see how their former star is doing. It will be a reunion with some of his former teammates like Tau [Percy], but honestly, stakes will be high for him.”

Billiat was absent when Bafana beat Zimbabwe 3-1 in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He came out of international retirement in August 2024 after talks with the current Zimbabwe coach, Michael Nees. The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star scored one goal as The Warriors sealed qualification.
