SuperSport sink in relegation zone, as CT City’s winless run continues

Despite not being in action, SuperSport United dropped into the relegation zone after the Betway Premiership matches played on Saturday.

The Tshwane side has endured a rough patch this season where they have been a pale shadow of themselves across all competitions.

They are winless in their last four matches. Sadly, the result between Marumo Gallants and Cape Town City FC condemned them to the murky waters of relegation.

MARUMO GALLANTS’ WIN LEAVES SUPERSPORT UNITED IN THE MURKY WATERS OF RELEGATION

Gabadinho Mhango was the hero for Marumo Gallants after his goal earned them maximum points against CT City. Mhango thrust Gallants into the lead and ultimately a win after seven minutes at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

That was all the Abdeslam Ouaddou-coached side needed to get some respite above the relegation zone.

Gallants leapt to 13th position with 22 points, one point above Richards Bay FC and SuperSport United, who follow in that order, with 21 points each.

Cape Town City now occupy 12th position with 23 points. Additionally, the Mother City club has not registered a win in their last 10 outings across all competitions.

This result proved to be a consequential loss to SuperSport United, who now occupy the relegation play-off spot. They will hope to redeem themselves in their next match against the troubled Cape Town City on Sunday, 30 March at home.

In another match, Magesi FC edged Manqoba Mngqithi’s Golden Arrows, who came into the match riding high after their mid-week win over Polokwane City FC.

The match, which was played at Seshego Stadium in Polokwane, ended 1-0 in favour of Magesi, with Lehlegonolo Mokone scoring the priceless goal. In addition, the win, meant Owen Da Gama and his men move to 23 points on the league table. They jumped to 11th position.

Magesi are riding on a good vein of form, having beat Richards Bay by a similar margin in a match on Tuesday. They are one point behind Golden Arrows, who are tenth on the log table, with 24 points on their tally.

Meanwhile, Chippa United proved too powerful for Polokwane City in a match played at Buffalo City Stadium in East London,

Azola Ntsabo scored after 49 minutes to propel The Chilli Boys into the lead. Brian Okoth Bwire’s own goal all but assured Chippa United seal the win as they moved to ninth position with 25 points. Polokwane City remained fixated on sixth place with 31 points on their tally.
