Cape Town City FC and Muhsin Ertugral part ways
A string of disappointing results in the Betway Premiership has led Cape Town City FC to part ways with technical director [TD] and interim head coach Muhsin Ertugral.
The Citizens suffered a 1-0 defeat against Marumo Gallants in the league this past weekend which prompted the firing of Ertugral. In a surprising turn of events, Ertugral is leaving Cape Town City, having joined the club three months ago.
The experienced coach arrived at CTCity in January 2025 to replace Eric Tinkler, who was shown the exit door after an inconsistent start to the 2024/25 season. Tinkler has since taken over the coaching gig at Sekhukhune United from the departed Lehlohonolo Seema.
Meanwhile, Ertugral initially came to CT City as the technical director. However, he was given the task of leading the team for the remainder of the season on an interim basis.
MUHSIN ERTUGRAL SACKED BEFORE SERVING IN HIS ORIGINAL TECHNICAL DIRECTOR POSITION
The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs mentor is leaving the club before serving in his original technical director position.
Ertugral was in charge of 13 league matches at CT City, where he lost seven, drew three and won three times. The John Comitis team also suffured defeat in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 against Sekhukhune United under the guidance of Ertugral.
On Monday, 17 March 2025, Cape Town City confirmed the exit of the Turkish tactician as they aim to take a different direction and climb up the log standings.
“After technical discussions, the club and Muhsin Ertugral have agreed mutually to part ways. The decision comes as a collective in the best interest of the club as we look to end the 24/25 season as strong as possible. We thank Muhsin for his professional and earnest contribution.” reads the CT City statement.
After 23 matches league played, Cape Town City are sitting 13th on the log with 23 points. They won six games, drew five and suffered 12 defeats.
