Kruger United charges into title contention, Spurs clinch crucial victory
Kruger United have joined the title race in the Motsepe Foundation Championship while relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs claimed a crucial victory.
The Mpumalanga-based side claimed a 2-0 win against Upington City FC at KaNyamazane Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Thulani Ndlela and Bright Ndlovu found the back of the net in each half as Kruger collected maximum points.
Kruger United who gained promotion from the ABC Motsepe League to the NFD at the start of the season are pushing to gain promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.
With eight matches left before the curtains falls on the current season, Kruger have won 10 league matches, drew six and lost six times. They are sitting second on the log standings with 36 points in 22 outings and they are six points away from log-leaders Durban City FC.
Elsewhere, Durban City FC stumbled to a goalless draw against Leruma United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. City’s draw against Leruma United was their second successive stalement after playing to a 0-0 draw against Orbit College last weekend.
Despite failing to collect three points in their past two matches, the KZN-based side remain at the top of the table with 42 points after 22 games. Durban City have 12 league wins under their name, six draws and four defeats.
Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs clinched three crucial points after beating Baroka FC 2-0 at Global Stadium on Friday.
CAPE TOWN SPURS LEFT WITH EIGHT GAMES TO SURVIVE RELEGATION
The Urban Warriors are occupying the 15th position on the log in the second-tier with 22 points in 22 games played. The last eight matches will be crucial for Spurs to survive the chop.
