Lorch off the mark in Morocco as Campbell shines at Club Brugge

Seasoned forward Thembinkosi Lorch broke his scoring duck for Wydad AC on Saturday night, as Shandre Campbell kept his fine form in Belgium.

The on-loan Mamelodi Sundowns star, Lorch scored his first goal as Rulani Mokwena’s Wydad AC played out to a 1-1 draw with IR Tanger on Sunday morning. Lorch scored in the 31st minute, but his goal was not enough to earn the team a win as IR Tanger equalised to force a draw.

It was Wydad WC’s fourth successive draw. As a result, they remained fixed in fourth position on the log standings. They sit on 43 points, just two behind second-placed AS FAR, while FUS Rabat also have 43 points. RS Berkane have already been confirmed as the 2024/25 Botola League champions.

SHANDRE CAMPBELL RISE TO STARDOM CONTINUES

In Belgium, rising South African star Shandre Campbell continued with his fine form after scoring for Club Brugge NXT as they beat Genk Reserves 3-0 in the Belgian second division on Friday. This was Campbell’s eighth goal of the season for the Belgian outfit. He has also contributed two assists in 17 games.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster was on parade for 20 minutes as Burnley FC climbed into the England Championship’s automatic promotion places after a comfortable 2-0 victory at Swansea City on Saturday. They stretched their unbeaten league run to 25 games. Josh Brownhill and Jaidon Anthony fired Burnley to a win.

FADLU DAVIDS IN EMPHATIC WIN

In Tanzania, Fadlu Davids led Simba SC FC to an emphatic 6-0 victory over Dodoma Jiji FC in a league match on Friday. The win means they keep pressure on log leaders, Young Africans. The Davids-led club sit in second position with 57 points, one point shy of log table leaders, Young Africans.

Meanwhile, Percy Tau, who is set for a return to the Bafana Bafana fold, was not in action this weekend. Tau’s Qatar SC will resume action on the 29th of March when they will host Al Arabi at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium.

In Tunisia, Elias Mokwana was not in action this weekend. He, however, played 45 minutes in Esperance’s last match on Wednesday as they drew 2-2 with JS Omrane. SINGH PUNCHING ABOVE WEIGHT IN CYPRUS

In Cyprus, Mihlali Mayambela played for 64 minutes for Aris Limassol before being withdrawn as they beat Apoel Nicosia 1-0 on Saturday to move to the top of the log standings. They have 64 points from 27 games. Giorgi Kvilitaia was the goalscorer.

In addition, Luther Singh played the whole match and provided an assist as AEL Limassol claimed a 2-1 win over Omonia Aradippou in the Cyrpus top-flight on Saturday. This was Singh’s ninth assist this season.

Furthermore, in the Major League Soccer [MLS], Bongokuhle Hlongwane played 90 minutes as Minnesota United blew away a three-goal lead against Sporting Kansas Sporting. The match ended in a 3-3 draw on Sunday.

South African coach Bradley Carnell suffered his first defeat of the season at the helm of Philadelphia Union. They suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Nashville SC on Sunday night at home, Subaru Park.

Additionally, ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was not in the FSCB team that played out to a 3-3 draw win against Rapid București on Sunday.
