What Lerato Chabangu wants to do after rehab
Former Bafana Bafana forward Lerato Chabangu revealed his future aspirations, setting his sights on a new challenge that will see him transition from the field to the sidelines.
Chabangu has been going through a rehabilitation process at Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre in Ga-Mothapo, Limpopo. The 39-year-old’s football career came to an abrupt end, and he has faced some difficulties off the field, which resulted in alcohol addiction.
His 13-year career includes stints at clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, Chippa United and Moroka Swallows. He has also had different spells in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League for Limpopo club Mikhado and Baberwa FC in Gauteng.
Speaking to this publication, Chabangu says one of the things he wants to pursue when he comes out of the rehabilitation is to coach, even if it means he starts in the development teams.
WHY LERATO CHABANGU WANTS TO PURSUE COACHING AS A CAREER
“I never coached before, but from time to time, I would give input to local teams [in Tembisa]. I also like analysing a lot when I am watching football on TV and share opinions with the guys,” he told FARPost.
“Obviously, I can’t be a chooser. I will take anything and see where it takes me. I will upgrade day-by-day or when the time comes. So when the opportunity comes or whatever door opens, I will grab it.”
He added: “So the interest has always been there, but just one of those things that I need to work on and see where it takes me.”
EX-BAFAFANA BAFANA STAR WANTS TO SHARE HIS EXPERIENCE WITH YOUNG PLAYERS
“I have learnt so much in my whole career, and I can say I have a lot of experience that a lot of people might want me to share. More especially the young ones, I think I would consider that when I come out of rehab,” declared Chabangu.
“But I will see when I come out. I will be busy with a coaching course when I come out and see where it takes me. But I will be around football-wise.”
