Why Eric Tinkler opted for Mark van Heerden as his assistant

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has explained his decision to rope in Mark van Heerden as his assistant at the club.

Tinkler recently took over the head coaching position from Lehlohonolo Seema at the Betway Premiership side.

He has been in charge for two matches, winning 2-1 against Marumo Gallants and also suffered a defeat against Stellenbosch FC at home in the league. Tinkler’s new technical team also includes Paulus Masehe who also served under Seema.

“Mark is somebody that I have worked with, obviously. He is also now qualified. He has a UEFA B [coaching] License and he knows my philosophy and my style and what I want,” said Tinkler.

“I think that’s very important. Paulus obviously will learn and it’s someone I know from his playing days. So I think it’s always important to have people around you that understand the way you think as a coach and the way you want to play.”

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED COACH OPTIMISTIC THAT HIS SIDE WILL IMPROVE

With only eight matches remaining before the season ends, Tinkler admits there is still a lot of work to do to instil his way of playing at the club.

“Obviously, there is a lot of talent here. There is a lot of experience in this team. We have players that have played at the highest level and at big clubs. So, talent is definitely not the issue.

“Now, it’s just about building on what they have achieved so far. Obviously, we need to add certain elements to our game to make sure that we stay strong and build a credible season. Not only this season but moving forward.”
