Mngqithi explains what’s expected of him at Arrows

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi speaking to the media

In response to questions about his mandate at Golden Arrows, coach Manqoba Mngqithi has explained what’s expected of him at the KZN club.

The 53-year-old coach has recently embarked on his third stint with Abafana Bes’thende following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns in December of last year.

He previously spearheaded the Durban-based club from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2013. In 2009, he guided them to MTN8 success and is the last coach to win a trophy with the KZN club.

When asked about what the club wants him to achieve, Mngqithi first highlighted the strong understanding he has with Golden Arrows’ boss, Mato Madlala.

He emphasised that their connection goes beyond a formal working relationship, mentioning that he even offered his support to the Durban-based club during his time with Sundowns.

He stated that, therefore, the club’s expectation isn’t a specific goal but rather a general improvement of the team’s overall standing.

MNGQITHI ON ARROWS CHAIRLADY – ‘SHE KNOWS I CANNOT SLEEP ON DUTY’

“Sis Mato understands me more than probably anybody else,” said Mngqithi. “Our relationship is beyond the boss and the coach. We’re brothers, even when I was at Sundowns, I was helping where I can help.

“So, the relationship is not about where we want to go. It’s about making this team better, and she knows she can sleep comfortably and be wherever she [can be].

“She knows I cannot sleep on duty. I like what I’m doing, and I enjoy my job, and I’m a full custodian of her club. And she knows that there’s nothing to doubt when I’m there because I’m going to give my best.”

Since taking over at the beginning of March, Mngqithi has overseen three matches, winning one, drawing one and losing one of those.
