Sundowns’ Ribeiro gives surprise gift to toddler in heartfelt encounter

In a heartfelt fan encounter, Mamelodi Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro finally met an adoring toddler fan whose affection captured his heart after the draw against Golden Arrows in Hammarsdale a fortnight ago.

After scoring a penalty to hand Masandawana a point away from home, an unnamed little boy adoringly called the Santa Helena-born ace after the game.

A video posted by Bhekithemba Gumbi went viral on TikTok. In it, the toddler repeatedly called Ribeiro’s name from the stands. When he saw the video, the 26-year-old attacker responded, writing, “Thank you very much for your affection. I hope to meet you and give you my shirt.”

Gumbi, who is thought to be related to the little boy, responded, “I would really appreciate that. Can I bring him to a game against Orlando Pirates on the 16th of March, please?”

It appears they agreed through social media that the child would be taken to FNB Stadium for the Orlando Pirates versus Sundowns match in the Betway Premiership on Sunday. Following the 2-1 loss to the Buccaneers, the talented forward finally met with his young admirer.

In a video posted by the Downs social media team, Ribeiro picks the boy up and says, “How are you, boss?”.

Although somewhat inaudible, the boy seems to say, “I love you.” The Brazilian replies, “I love you too.”

WHAT SURPRISE GIFT DID RIBEIRO GIVE TO HIS YOUNG FAN?

Although he initially promised to give him his shirt, Ribeiro, regarded as one of the best players in the domestic league, gives the youngster a pair of his soccer boots. Thereafter, he gives the boy a warm hug, and the boy sings a famous Sundowns song.

The former Charleroi player took to social media to express gratitude to the boy’s family. “Very good to see you and your family. Thanks again for your affection,” wrote Ribeiro on Instagram.

Alongside the post was a picture of Ribeiro with the boy in a complete Sundowns kit, resting on his lap in the locker room.

Ribeiro has been one of the standout players this season, making 27 goal contributions in 35 games. He has 16 goals in all competitions.
