Former PSL goalkeeper attracts MLS attention

A former PSL goalkeeper has attracted interest from the MLS after parting ways with US-based National Independent Soccer Association team Michigan Stars FC.

The former Cape Town City FC goalminder Tatenda Mkuruva has left Michigan Stars FC, which competes in the American fourth tier. The 29-year-old keeper had been with the club since 2019 when he moved from Buildcon of Zambia.

Mkuruva, formerly a Dynamos FC goalkeeper, moved to Cape Town City in 2017 and later moved to Buildcon in 2018 before dealing a deal that saw him stay in the United States.

As he leaves Michigan Stars FC, FARPost understands that Mkuruva is weighing two offers from Major League Soccer [MLS]. Mukuruva announced his departure from Michigan Stars FC on Wednesday morning – ending a six-year-long union.

“As I reflect on these past incredible years, I’m filled with gratitude and pride. Together, we have shared countless moments on the field, in the locker room and beyond,” Mkuruva posted on his Facebook page.

“We have celebrated victories, faced challenges and grown stronger with every match. Winning the championship along the way is something I will always cherish. But it’s the memories we have created together that truly define this journey.

“Thank you, Michigan Stars FC. It’s been an honour to be part of such an amazing organisation. Thanks to all the ownership, coaching staff, teammates and everyone associated with the stars for their love and support.”

Before moving to the US, Mkuruva was in the books of Cape Town City FC. But he did not enjoy much game time, with only two appearances under his belt.

He switched to Zambia, where he turned out for Buildcon. That was followed by his move to Michigan Stars, where he made over 100 appearances in National Independent Soccer Association.

Additionally, Mkuruva was the Zimbabwe Warriors’ first-choice goalkeeper at the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon.
