Zothwane – ‘I might be wrong, this is my opinion about Chiefs’
Richards Bay FC co-coach Papi Zothwane has shared his two cents on the tough times Kaizer Chiefs have been enduring.
Zothwane was speaking after guiding Arrows to a shock 2-0 win over Amakhosi 2-0 in the Betway Premiership at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday.
This much-needed victory saw the Natal Rich Boyz secure maximum points, lifting them to the 11th place on the log standings with 24 points after 11 games.
Meanwhile, this was Nasreddine Nabi’s ninth defeat in 22 league games this season, leaving the Phefeni Glamour Boys in eighth place with 29 points.
The Richards Bay coach was asked about whether he felt the Chiefs he faced on the day was the most vulnerable one he had come across throughout his career both as a coach and a player.
Zothwane said he believes Chiefs are just going through an ordinary bad phase, which other clubs “like Orlando Pirates” have also experienced.
He feels Amakhosi have quality players in their team but have unfortunately not seen things go their way recently.
ZOTHWANE ON CHIEFS’ BAD SPELL – ‘IT HAS HAPPENED TO TEAMS LIKE PIRATES’
“No, I don’t think [this is the most vulnerable Chiefs we’ve ever seen]. Personally, that’s my observation and opinion; maybe I might be wrong,” said Zothwane.
“I think Chiefs have got good players; they have got good players. It’s just that maybe it’s a phase and a patch that things are not happening. They have got good personnel. Sometimes, it’s just that things are not happening. It has happened to many other teams as well, like [Orlando] Pirates.
“So, maybe now that’s what is happening to them. But I think in terms of quality, they have quality. It’s just that things aren’t happening the way they want.”
Amakhosi’s next challenge in the league will be a clash against Golden Arrows on 30 March. The match is scheduled to take place at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale.
