Elvis Chipezeze picks his two best goalkeepers in the PSL

After becoming the first goalkeeper to reach 10 clean sheets this season in the PSL, Magesi FC’s Elvis Chipezeze has named his current best shot-stoppers.

The 35-year-old has been one of the solid players at Magesi FC in their maiden Betway Premiership season.

He has played 21 out of the 23 league matches played by the Owen Da Gama-coached side. In those 20 matches, Zimbabwe has proudly kept 10 clean sheets despite Magesi struggling defensively.

His closest rivals at the moment is Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Ronwen Williams, with eight clean sheets each.

Six goalkeepers follow with seven clean sheets apiece. These include Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United, Ira Tape of TS Galaxy and Darren Keet of Cape Town City FC. Badra Sangare of Sekhukhune United, Manuel Sapunga, and Salim Magoola of Richards Bay FC complete the list.

MAGESI FC’S CHIPEZEZE REVEALS ADMIRATION FOR SIPHO CHAINE AND RONWEN WILLIAMS

While acknowledging the stiff competition among goalkeepers in the Betway Premiership, Chipezeze has revealed his undying admiration for Williams and Chaine.

In fact, the Zimbabwean picks the Bafana Bafana shot-stoppers as his best goalkeeper in the PSL.

“Of course, I have managed to help the team to the best of my abilities this season, but it has been a story of group work. In this league, there are a lot of good goalkeepers, some of which are national team goalkeepers. But my best two are Ronwen Williams and Sipho Chaine,” Chipezeze told FARPost.

“Williams was nominated for a big award in football history [Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or]. That is enough to show that he is of high quality.

“Sipho has excelled well at Pirates. We all see it. And I always sit down to watch him play. The same for Ronwen, I take notes when he plays. But I cannot take away the fact that the league is full of top-quality goalkeepers that can fit well in any league in Africa.

Though Magesi FC has had indifferent fortunes in the league, Chipezeze has played a crucial role in Magesi’s Carling Knockout Cup fairytale.

He won Man of the Match awards in four successive Carling Knockout Cup matches, to set an unpreceded achievement at local level.

He has also won three Man-of-the-Match awards in the league. This performance brought him so much attention from Zimbabwe, where he is from.
