Agent gives latest on Kaizer Chiefs’ Sphephelo Sithole pursuit

The agent of Gil Vicente and Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo Sithole has given the latest update on Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of the player.

Amakhosi significantly strengthened their squad in the January transfer window, securing three new quality players. They acquired the services of midfielder Thabo Cele, winger Glody Lilepo and striker Tashreeq Morris.

While Cele and Lilepo have made an immediate impact, Morris’ progress has unfortunately been hampered by an injury, resulting in his absence from a few games.

Aiming to further strengthen their midfield, the Phefeni Glamour Boys have their sights set on Sithole.

According to the player’s representative, Manuel Tomas, Chiefs enquired about the KZN academy product in December. However, he clarified that Amakhosi have not yet made a formal offer.

CHIEFS’ ENQUIRY ABOUT SPHEPHELO SITHOLE

“In December, yes, we received some calls from the club [Chiefs],” Tomas told FARPost. “We don’t know [what’s going to happen], but it’s football. But we don’t have an official offer from Chiefs for Sithole.

“It was just the talks with the club and the people from the club, but they haven’t made an official offer.”

Sithole is currently on loan at Portuguese Primeira Liga club Gil Vicente, having joined them from second-tier side CD Tondela at the start of the season.

With his loan expiring in June, it remains to be seen if he will return to his parent club, CD Tondela, where he is contracted until June 2026.

“When the loan ends, we don’t know the future,” Sithole’s agent added. “As he recovers from the injury, when he’s 100%, the future will guide us. We will not force nothing.”

The 26-year-old Ulundi-born midfielder recently made his comeback after a significant tibia and fibula fracture kept him out of action since September last year.

He sustained the injury while on international duty with Bafana Bafana, during their 3-2 away victory over South Sudan in an AFCON qualifier.
