Motaung addresses Nasreddine Nabi’s Chiefs future
Kaizer Chiefs’ marketing director, Jessica Motaung, has addressed the future of the club’s coach, Nasreddine Nabi. Nabi took over at the beginning of the season, but the team’s inconsistent performance is increasing pressure on him.
The latest disappointing result was the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Richards Bay FC in a Betway Premiership encounter. Following that match, the Tunisian coach emphasised the need for patience within the club and trust in the process. It marked their ninth defeat of the season, leaving them in eighth place on the log standings.
Amakhosi have collected 29 points from 22 matches. However, the former Young Africans coach remains optimistic that he will turn the fortunes around and believes they are on the right track.
Nabi is utilising the FIFA international break to focus on a few elements before their upcoming fixture against Golden Arrows on 30 March at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
WHAT JESSICA MOTAUNG SAID ABOUT NASREDDINE NABI’S FUTURE
“I think all I can say is we have a technical team, we have a coach, they’re doing the work, and they have the support to do the work,” Motaung told FARPost.
She said as management, they didn’t “get into this thinking we’d have quick results”. “We obviously know that this is a long game. We didn’t get into this thinking we’d have quick results. But certainly, I think the lessons are there. The analysis is there. The football team is working well with the coaches to ensure that things that must be addressed are addressed.”
Motaung, who also serves as deputy chairman of the African Clubs Association, added that it was necessary to “learn from the challenges that we face”. She further sent a message to the Amakhosi faithful.
“And my encouragement to the supporters is to support the team and ensure we make it to the finish line for the season. But there is a lot of learning and a need for more consistency. And there’s work behind the scenes to ensure that is done.”
Chiefs have not won a trophy in almost a decade, and the Nedbank Cup seems like their last resort. They face the winner between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United in the semifinal.
