‘He never complains’ – Namibia coach hails Deon Hotto’s attitude
Namibia coach Collin Benjamin has shared insights on working with Orlando Pirates‘ versatile player, Deon Hotto, who has been part of the Namibia national team since 2013.
The 34-year-old has also enjoyed decent spells with some Betway Premiership clubs, including Bidvest Wits, and helped Golden Arrows return to the premiership in 2015.
His impressive displays at Wits attracted the interest of many teams, with Pirates ended up sealing his signature.
Benjamin, who has been working with Hotto since his appointment as head coach in 2022, says Hotto’s patriotism, like the rest of the squad, is second to none.
WHY THE NAMIBIAN COACH FINDS IT EASY TO WORK WITH DEON HOTTO
“With Deon [Hotto], do you know that I don’t coach Deon? I can’t tell Deon how to shoot or how to cross,” said Benjamin.
“We give Deon a structure within a team, the positions that we need to get in, and the intelligence and experience that he brings, and he finds his players. He breaks lines. You play Deon at left-back and wing-back, and as a right midfielder, he can play in between the 10. He never complains.”

“The attitude of these guys and the patriotism that they show towards their country is second to none. We, as Namibia are just happy to have them. They are an inspiration not only to their families. They are an inspiration to young kids that are coming through. We wish him all the best and hope he stays healthy, scores goals, and does his best.”
Meanwhile, Namibia are still on track for a historic FIFA World Cup qualification as they remain second in Group H. They have won three and drawn three of their matches so far. Namibia, like some of the SADC countries, are playing their home matches in South Africa due to a lack of stadiums that meet the CAF requirements.
