Namibia coach talks on ‘patriotic’ Peter Shalulile PSL record chase
Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin has described PSL’s all-time top scorer record chaser, Peter Shalulile as a patriot, whom all Namibians are praying for to reach the milestone.
Shalulile is only two goals behind the 129 record, set by Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe. The Mamelodi Sundowns marksman has reached 127 premiership goals during the 10 seasons in the top flight.
He spent three seasons at Highlands Park before his move to Sundowns. The 31-year-old was also on the score sheet when Namibia played a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in the FIFA World Cup qualifier at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane on Monday.
WHAT COLLINS BENJAMIN MAKES OF PETER SHALULILE’S QUALITIES
“The value that Peter Shalulile brings to the team amplifies the game. Absolute professional and patriotic. A leader on and off the pitch,” said Benjamin.
“He is the first one that carries his bag into the bus or off the airport, and all of these things that he does off the field are par excellence.”
“On scoring, because he has the quality he is really a good player. I mean you in South Africa can attest to that. The last game we played against Malawi, it was an assist from him. So the value is much more than just for him to score goals.
“Peter Shalulile, on the field, the opponent has to feel that we have to be careful and it’s already a plus factor,” he added.
NAMIBIANS RALLYING BEHIND THEIR CAPTAIN TO BREAK PSL RECORD
“Peter Shalulile is Namibian and is proud to be a Namibian and we are very happy to have him. We wish him all the best and hopefully, that record here in South Africa is not going to stay for long,” added Benjamin.
“What I think about that is the same view that all three million Namibians are thinking and praying for him, all of them. Obviously, we all know it’s a matter of time and also the space that he is in, we wish him all the best and know that we are proud of him.”
