PSL clubs eye Aden McCarthy after impressive CHAN, DDC displays

Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] captain Aden McCarthy has attracted the attention of PSL clubs following his impressive performances.

McCarthy recently played in a makeshift Bafana Bafana squad in a two-legged CHAN qualifier against Egypt.

The 21-year-old was introduced as a substitute in the first leg in Bloemfontein and started in a three-man defence in Egypt a week later. After the two legs, Bafana secured a 4-2 aggregate score, having drawn 1-1 at home and won 3-1 away.

This season, the youngster has also been pivotal for Amakhosi in the reserve league. He scored in both matches against their rivals Orlando Pirates, with his latest contribution being a penalty that gave Amakhosi victory in the Soweto Derby on Sunday in the DDC.

While McCarthy initially missed a penalty, he confidently stepped up to take a second one, converting it and securing the only goal of the game. It was his fourth goal of the season in the DDC with Chiefs at the summit of the log standings.

The left-footed defender is on the verge of securing a spot on the Amakhosi first team, with indications that he will soon start training with the senior squad as the technical team evaluates his performance.

Notably, with Rushwin Dortley ruled out for the rest of the season and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe having moved to Libya, McCarthy could be close to making his breakthrough at the club. The only other defender currently available is Zitha Kwinika, who serves as a backup for Given Msimango and Inacio Miguel. This situation suggests that the DDC captain is nearing his chance to shine.

WHICH CLUBS ARE MONITORING ADEN MCCARTHY

Betway Premiership clubs Marumo Gallants and TS Galaxy are reportedly keeping an eye on the youth international. Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars are said to be keen on securing the youngster on loan.

The promising young defender, the son of Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy, recently came close to securing a trial with Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova. However, Moldova’s top-tier outfit chose to sign a more experienced defender instead.

McCarthy is currently under a DDC contract with Chiefs beyond this season, and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new professional agreement.
