Mabasa sets himself new ambitious target to get Bafana nod from Broos

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has set himself an ambitious new target with the aim of convincing Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to select him.

The 28-year-old forward is determined to earn a recall to the Bafana team, having last represented South Africa back in 2021.

His prolific form last season saw him walk away with the DStv [now Betway] Premiership’s golden boot after racking up 16 goals.

However, this was seemingly not enough to sway Broos, who has consistently opted for the likes of Evidence Makgopa, Lyle Foster, and Iqraam Rayners.

Mabasa, who remains hopeful of donning the national team colours, has set himself a challenging new goal to score at least 15 goals in every eight games in a bid to impress the Belgian tactician.

MABASA BELIEVES 15 GOALS IN EVERY 8 GAMES WOULD CONVINCE BROOS

“Probably consistency [has been missing in my game], I would say. I would love to score a lot more in a certain run of games,” said Mabasa during the interview with SoccerBeat

“Perhaps in a span of eight games, score like 15 goals, and make that decision easy that he has to choose me. Not for it to be as difficult as it has been.

“For now, he’s able to go with any striker that he’s picked [before]. There’s Lyle [Foster], there’s Evidence [Makgopa], there’s myself and Iqraam [Rayners].

“We are all doing well in our own rights, we are scoring goals this season and last season as well.

“So, whoever he picks right now, it’s a bit of a difficult decision for him. But like I said, I want to be at a point where I make that decision easy for him through my performances. So, let my performances speak for me.

“In a span of eight games, let’s say I score 15 goals, there’s no way I wouldn’t be selected at the national team. My job is to try and make it easier for him.”
