‘My heart has always been here’ – Thabo Cele on settling at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has explained his smooth integration at the club since his January transfer window move, revealing that: “my heart has always been here.”
Cele signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Chiefs, with an option for a one-year extension. The 28-year-old midfielder joined the Betway Premiership side from Russian club Fakel Voronezh.
The midfielder has fitted like a glove in Nasreddine Nabi’s Chiefs side, settling quickly at Naturena and making his debut in the electric atmosphere of the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium last month.
Cele has since made nine appearances in all competitions, delivering strong performances in midfield and earning a Man of the Match award.
He has credited the environment in Naturena as one of the contributing factors that made him feel at home. In addition, Cele feels his quick adaptation at Chiefs is also due to a long-held connection with the club.
WHAT HAS HELPED THABO CELE SETTLE AT KAIZER CHIEFS
“I have to say, it’s also the environment,” said Cele. “The people I found here [at Kaizer Chiefs]. The teammates and the technical team, and also my heart, has always been here.”
He added: “I have been working for my own individual dreams. But at the same time, I think it’s something that was always going to happen for me to come here, and I feel good that I am here. I am here to try and help the team so that we can achieve our objective as a team.”
KAIZER CHIEFS LOOKING TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS AGAINST GOLDEN ARROWS
Chiefs will be back in action this weekend [Saturday] when they travel to Durban for a clash against Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Cele says there has been some deep reflection by the players following a few disappointing results before the FIFA International break.
“After the space of observation and thinking, going deep into our own minds and hearts, I feel positive ahead of the next game,” added Cele.
“We are working very hard in trying to put in some new things in our game and add some few things. The priority remains the same, despite the difficulties we faced. The objective remains the same, which is to win the game.”
