Fadlu Davids secures quarterfinal spot, shifts focus to Confed Cup

With a 2-1 win against Bigman FC securing Simba SC’s place in the CRDB Federation Cup quarterfinals, SA coach Fadlu Davids is balancing domestic cup ambitions with a strong push in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Davids was missing most of his regular starters in the 2-1 victory over Bigman FC in the CRDB Federation Cup at KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Thursday due to the FIFA International break.

But the 22-time Tanzanian champions were strong enough to go through to the next round. Simba remain second in the Tanzanian Premier League, trailing rivals Young Africans by one point. Both clubs have eight matches remaining.

Davids confirmed that his side would be flying to Egypt on Thursday evening, to have enough time to prepare.

“Yeah, we are flying [to Egypt] this evening [Thursday]. So now we have to go to the camp, have some recovery and head to the airport,” he told Azam TV Sports.

“Tomorrow [Friday] evening, we will have a light session in Egypt. So the focus is already there, especially the technical team. They are already watching matches of Al Masry and knowing what to expect, what game plan and strategy to use.

“We are just getting through this match [Bigman FC], and like I said, a very awkward match at an awkward time, but now it’s about freshening the players up, and we have four sessions plus tomorrow. But there is enough time in Egypt to prepare and do enough sessions to prepare our tactical plan.”
