Vusi Vilakazi estimates timeframe for his return to the dugout

Former AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has given an estimated timeframe for his return to the dugout as he continues to address personal matters.

‘Kanu’, as he’s affectionately known, abruptly left the club in February after tendering his resignation, citing personal issues.

The resignation marked the end of the co-coaching arrangement between him and Arthur Zwane, which commenced in October with their joint appointment as successors to Pablo Franco Martin, who was relieved of his duties in September.

Vilakazi had initially joined the Durban-based club as a DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] head coach in August prior to being promoted to the first team.

Speaking during the interview with SNAWA on Metro FM, Vilakazi revealed that he is currently enrolled in a programme to help him resolve his personal issues.

While acknowledging that his readiness to return hinges on his personal healing, he expressed a feeling that he could potentially be back in coaching after the current season ends.

“What is important for me is obviously to heal. It’s not going to be something that will happen overnight,” said Vilakazi. “But with the programme that I’m attending now, I feel that maybe by the end of the season, I might find myself in a space where I’m ready.

“Going back to football is not going to be a problem, realising what it is that I’m capable of. Everyone knows that.

“But I don’t want the very same thing [personal issues] to hunt me. So, obviously, the healing will do for me. If it happens that I’m coming back to football, so be it. If it doesn’t happen, I think I will have to look at something else and try to get the living.”

Before joining AmaZulu, Vilakazi had also worked for Richards Bay FC, Chippa United and Golden Arrows.
