‘We’ve been playing good football, but…’: Pule Mmodi
Kaizer Chiefs winger Pule Mmodi has acknowledged that Amakhosi have been displaying “good football” but pointed out two factors that are hindering the club’s progress.
Amakhosi will play Golden Arrows on Saturday, March 29, in a Betway Premiership tie at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The showdown will start at 15:30.
Both teams will be gunning for maximum points as they have been putting in the hard work at training after a two-week FIFA international break.
As things stand, the Soweto giants find themselves in position eight on the log standings with 29 points after 22 games, while Abafana Bes’thende are placed 10th on the table with 24 points from 19 outings.
PULE MMODI’S TWO AREAS OF CONCERN AT KAIZER CHIEFS
The 32-year-old highlighted two key factors affecting the Glamour Boys’ success: scoring goals and winning games.
“I think, to be fair, we’ve been playing good football, but we need to work on winning games and scoring goals,” said Mmodi. “As a forward player, I know that I need to contribute more in terms of goals. We strive to win all the remaining games and give our best.
“For me, it’s all about hard work. Each time I play, I give all my best for the team because it’s only for 90 minutes, so as a player, you just have to give all your best, and after that, you will see the good results.”
PULE MMODI HOPING FOR A TOP-FOUR FINISH
Mmodi is content that Chiefs can still finish in the top four as they still have to play against teams that are above them.
“We’re currently eighth on the table, but we still have a chance to finish in the top four,” he added. “We’ll be facing teams that are above us, and that’s a great opportunity for us to make up ground.”
He further mentioned that their match against his former club, Arrows, won’t be a walk in the park as the KZN outfit has good players and an experienced coach [Manqoba Mngqithi].
“Golden Arrows is a good team, and with their new coach, they’ll likely have a different approach. However, we’re focused on our own game plan, and we’re confident that we can get a result,” Mmodi noted.
