Why Lesotho FA is unhappy with ‘loud-mouth’ Hugo Broos

Lesotho Football Association [LEFA] secretary-general Mokhosi Mohapi has shed light on why they are unhappy with Hugo Broos following SAFA’s own description of the Bafana Bafana coach as a “loud-mouth.”

Broos took a swipe at Lesotho over a year ago after facing them in a friendly match in preparation for the 2023 AFCON, which was staged in the Ivory Coast.

At the time, the experienced coach stated that he would have loved to face much stronger opponents to stand a good chance of competing with African powerhouses at AFCON.

Meanwhile, the remarks from Broos have seemingly offended the Lesotho secretary, who accused the coach of belittling his country.

WHAT LESOTHO SAID ABOUT HUGO BROOS

In an interview with FARPost, Mohapi detailed his grievances against Hugo Broos, alleging further recent disrespectful treatment by the Bafana coach.

Mokhosi Mohapi has claimed that the Belgian coach questioned why there’s an organisation called Lesotho Football Association and said they don’t deserve to take part in any FIFA competitions.

“Hugo Broos has been harsh in terms of what he said about us as a nation and as an association,” Mohapi told FARPost. “So they [SAFA] have never said anything despite having to tell them on numerous occasions that this guy [Broos] is always fighting us at any given opportunity.

“All they said [SAFA] is that he’s a loud-mouth, so we want to see if the loud-mouth knows the regulations. I mean he’s been saying that he doesn’t know why there’s an organisation called Lesotho Football Association and why the team exists in FIFA competitions, he’s been saying that.”

In addition, Bafana are in Group C of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they are sitting at the top of the table with 13 points, followed by Rwanda and Benin on eight points, while Nigeria and Lesotho are on seven and six points respectively. Zimbabwe are occupying the bottom spot with four points after six matches played.
