Bulgaria-based Jaisen Clifford ponders next move

South African winger Jaisen Clifford is pondering his next move in Bulgaria as he winds up his loan spell at Sportist Svoge. Clifford is currently on loan at Svoge from Bulgaria’s second-tier outfit, SFC Etar Veliko Tarnovo.

The former Cape Town All-Stars attacker has started 23 matches, scored five goals and provided one assist. At the end of the season, he will be out of contact with his parent club, Etar.

Having done well during the loan spell, the man from Tritchard has attracted a lot of interest. However, if the offer is good, he will not rule out a move back to the Betway Premiership.

WHAT JAISEN CLIFFORD SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE

“Initially, when I moved to Etar, the club played top-division football before relegation last season, so yeah, I’m finishing my contract with Etar in June,” he told FARPost.

“I plan first to get back to playing top-flight football, so it will depend on the offers I get, but for now, I’m focused on doing my job here before deciding my future in June.”

Jaisen has played overseas for over a decade, first moving to Maltese second-tier side Gudja United in 2015. Two years later, he signed for Stumbras in the Lithuanian top flight, helping them win their only major trophy in the 2017 Lithuanian Football Cup.

In 2019, he signed for Portuguese third-tier club Condeixa before a brief stint with the now-defunct All-Stars in the 2020/21 season. He made five appearances for the club, scoring one goal. Thereafter, he moved to the Armenian team Van.

He has not ruled out a return to the Betway Premiership at the end of the season. “The PSL is one of the best leagues in Africa, and the quality has increased in recent years, which has even helped the national team do well. Bafana finished in the semis last season.

“I have always dreamt of playing in the PSL, so if the right opportunity comes, I would definitely consider it. Ultimately, I want to end my career at home.”
