Durban City maintain top spot, CT Spurs relegation fears grow
Durban City FC maintained their position at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship log while Cape Town Spurs fell deeper into the relegation zone.
The KZN-based outfit claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Upington City FC at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Friday, 28 March 2025.
Durban City opened a big gap at the summit of the log standings after collecting 45 points in 23 matches. City, previously known as Maritzburg United, have won 13 league games, drew six and lost on four occasions.
The Farook Kadodia-owned team is leading second-placed Kruger United with eight points. Kruger are occupying second place with 37 points.
CT SPURS DROP POINTS AGAINST KRUGER UNITED
Elsewhere, on Saturday at the Athlone Stadium, Cape Town Spurs dropped points as they played to a 1-1 draw against Kruger United, which saw them fail to move out of the relegation zone. The Urban Warriors are lying 15th on the table with 23 points, having it all to do in the remaining seven matches in the second-tier.
CT Spurs are three points ahead of Leruma United, who are rooted at the basement of the table with 20 points. After being relegated from the Betway Premiership last season, the Cape Town-based side has only managed to win five games, draw eight, and lose 10 times.
In another match that involved title-chasing teams, JDR Stars and Milford FC played to a 2-2 draw at Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Saturday.
JDR Stars are positioned third on the table with 37 points, while Milford are sixth with 33 points. With the Championship season reaching its climax, the next few weeks will be crucial for the promotion race and relegation battle.
