High-flying Chiefs maintain top spot in the DDC, Pirates stumble

Kaizer Chiefs continued their strong form and maintained their lead in the DDC league standings after a massive victory over the weekend, with Orlando Pirates suffering a defeat.

Chiefs delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, securing a resounding 4-0 victory over SuperSport United at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

This impressive win keeps the Phefeni Glamour Boys at the summit of the league table with 54 points from 22 matches.

While most teams have played 23 games, leaving Chiefs with a game in hand, SuperSport United currently occupy fourth position with 44 points after 23 matches.

On the same day, Orlando Pirates suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of AmaZulu FC in a match that took place on Saturday at the Isak Steyl Stadium. Siphamandla Msezana scored the only goal for the Buccaneers, but strikes from Asanda Mzobe and Thato Mdluli secured the win for Usuthu.

The Sea Robbers currently sit fifth on the league table with 43 points after 24 matches, while AmaZulu are in ninth position with 29 points from 22 games.

SUNDOWNS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Mamelodi Sundowns emphatically returned to winning ways on Saturday, thrashing Marumo Gallants 7-1 at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. 

Thulani Zandamela was the star of the show for Sundowns, scoring a hat-trick, while Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, Kutlwano Letlhaku, Sipho Ngqakabana, and Sechaba Gaseitsiwe also found the back of the net.

This massive victory propels the Brazilians to third place in the league standings with 45 points from 23 matches. Marumo Gallants, on the other hand, remain in 14th place with 16 points after 24 games.

On Sunday, Stellenbosch FC, the current champions, secured a 3-1 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Isak Steyl Stadium. Meanwhile, in another high-scoring affair, Cape Town City FC convincingly defeated Magesi FC 8-2 at the Malta Park Stadium.

Following these results, Stellies remain in second place in the league standings with 53 points from 23 games, while Sekhukhune United are currently 10th with 27 points after 24 matches.

Cape Town City’s emphatic win places them sixth on the log with 37 points from 23 games, and Magesi FC find themselves in 13th position with 17 points after 22 matches.
