Marumo Gallants in action against TS Galaxy

Polokwane City FC and Marumo Gallants recorded wins as the battle of strugglers between SuperSport United and Cape Town City FC ended in a draw.

Marumo Gallants accounted for a narrow 2-1 win over TS Galaxy in a match that was played at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday evening. Marumo Gallants started the match at a high tempo, and they surged ahead as early as the second minute.

Masindi Nemtajela scored for Gallants as TS Galaxy were caught lapsing in defence after two minutes. It was an evenly balanced affair in the first half as The Rockets searched for an equaliser. In fact, Gallants remained resolute. Zimbabwean forward Daniel Msendami extended Gallants’ lead after 56 minutes.

Striker Victor Letsoalo reduced Galaxy’s deficit after scoring in the 67th minute, but it was not enough to salvage a point. The win left Gallants in 12th position with 25 points in 23 matches. In addition, TS Galaxy remained in fourth position despite the loss. They have 35 points from 24 matches.

Meanwhile, at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, strugglers SuperSport United and Cape Town City played out to a 0-0 draw. As a result, Cape Town City remain in 14th position with 24 points in 24 matches. Additionally, SuperSport United occupy the relegation play-off spot, with 22 points in 22 matches.

MARUMO GALLANTS AND POLOKWANE CITY RECORD VITAL WINS

Furthermore, Polokwane City dented Richards Bay’s hope of making a major leap away from the relegation threat. Rise and Shine beat the KZN-based side 3-1 in a match played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A brace from Lebohang Nkaki and a goal from Mokibelo Ramabu were all Polokwane City FC needed to beat Richards Bay. Nkaki opened the scoring after 21 minutes.

Eswatini international Justice Figuareido restored parity for Richards Bay in the 52nd minute. Six minutes later, Ramabu restored Polokwane City FC’s lead. Further, Nkaki was on the scoresheet again on the 71st minute mark, as he netted from a penalty to seal their win.

The win left the Phuti Mohafe-coached side fixated on 34 points after 23 matches. They are sixth in the log standings. On the other hand, Richards Bay FC remained with 24 points on their tally after 23 outings. Therefore, they are 13th in the log table.
