Arthur Zwane makes admission after AmaZulu’s recent slump

AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has made an honest admission following his side’s slump in recent Betway Premiership matches.

Usuthu have not tasted a win in their last four Premiership matches, losing three and drawing one. However, they still remain within the top eight, in position seven in the standings with 30 points after 24 matches.

Following the departure of co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi in February, Zwane took over as the sole head coach and has recorded only one victory so far, a 2-0 win against Cape Town City FC in March.

In their most recent game, AmaZulu lost 2-1 at the hands of Chippa United on Saturday at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.

Zwane says they should be consolidating their top eight position as the season nears its conclusion.

Initially, the KZN side had aimed for a top-four finish at the end of the current campaign; however, Zwane feels those chances are gradually fading.

ZWANE SAYS AMAZULU CHANCES FOUR TOP FOUR ARE GRADUALLY FADING

“We were supposed to beat Chippa [in the last game] to consolidate our position,” said Zwane. “We’re in the top eight, but if you look at the past four games we have played, you look at the goals we have conceded, they are identical, we could have done better.

“So, now we’re putting ourselves under pressure because we gave Chippa a lifeline to get closer to us.

“You understand what I’m saying? So, the next game, if you don’t win, then we’re out of the top eight. So, though our target is position four, it seems like those chances are fading because we keep hurting ourselves.”

Aiming for redemption in their next league match, the Durban-based outfit is next in action against Richards Bay FC on Friday, 4 March at 7:30 PM.
