Is Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler’s season over?

Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler’s absence in the last two Betway Premiership matches raises concerns about the severity of his injury and the timeline for his return to action.

Frosler has been a regular under Nasreddine Nabi this season, starting 19 games and coming off the bench two times. In his absence, Dillan Solomons has started the league game against Richards Bay FC and Golden Arrows over the weekend.

Nabi’s Amakhosi have struggled with injuries this season, with several players out injured. Rushwin Dortley has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury. Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris are also out nursing injury.

The latest Chiefs player to pick an injury was Thabo Cele who had to be withdrawn in the second half of the 2-1 loss away to Golden Arrows over the weekend.

In addition, the Soweto giants have suffered another Frosler blow. The 27-year-old recently injured his shoulder and is in a sling for a few weeks to immobilise the shoulder and allow the tissues to heal.

Recovery from a dislocated shoulder typically takes 12 to 16 weeks to heal completely. The curtain comes down on the Betway Premiership at the end of May. Essentially, Frosler is unlikely to participate this season unless he recovers swiftly.

Besides Solomons, Nabi also has Njabulo Blom who has previously played that right back role. The Soweto giants face TS Galaxy in a league match on Saturday. Thereafter, they visit Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup semifinal.

Chiefs have not won a trophy in almost a decade and will be looking to upset the Brazilians.

Meanwhile, the former Bidvest Wits right-back, Frosler, will be out of contract in June. However, the club has indicated that it has offered him a new deal.
