Chiefs star Thabo Cele shares injury update

Following his injury-forced exit during Kaizer Chiefs’ loss to Golden Arrows, Thabo Cele has provided an update on his condition as Amakhosi prepares to face TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership.

Cele was withdrawn in the second half due to injury in the 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows in the league last Saturday in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Chiefs turn their focus to the Rockets at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 19h00.

The two sides enter the match with contrasting fortunes this season. Under Adnan Beganovic’s guidance, the Rockets have succeeded in climbing up the league table. The team owned by Tim Sukazi started poorly under Sead Ramovic, who departed for Tanzania’s Young Africans SC in November and later joined Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.

Beganovic has currently guided the team to fourth place after being in charge for 18 league games. He won nine, drew six and lost three.

On the other hand, Nasreddine Nabi has faced defeat in 10 out of 23 matches as the coach of the Soweto giants. His record includes seven wins and five draws. The Tunisian coach is under significant pressure to secure better results for Chiefs.

WHAT’S THE LATEST ON THABO CELE

The former Benfica B star revealed he felt a bit of discomfort in his calf during the Arrows match. He added: “Obviously, you saw in the game I had some discomfort on my calf. But it’s something that we’ve been monitoring with the technical team. I’m going to see today from how I train.”

Amakhosi lost control of the game following Cele’s exit. Nabi will cross his fingers that the former South Africa youth international is available for the Galaxy clash. The Chiefs desperately need maximum points as they now chase a top-eight finish.

Meanwhile, Beganovic will miss the services of talented winger Kamogelo Sebelebele. The 22-year-old utility player has hit the target three times and provided three assists in all competitions. One of his goals came in the 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in February.
