Nedbank Cup semifinal showdowns: Dates and venues revealed
The stage is set for what promises to be a thrilling Nedbank Cup semifinal weekend, as the PSL has revealed the dates and venues for the highly anticipated clashes.
With dreams of cup glory on the line, the remaining four teams: Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants will battle it out for a coveted spot in the final.
The PSL has confirmed that the Nedbank Cup semifinals will be played on Sunday, 13 April 2025. The defending champions, Pirates, will welcome the 2021 champions, Gallants, at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto in the first game. Kick off is set for 15h00.
Following the Pirates-Gallants game at 18h00, there will be a mouthwatering encounter between Sundowns and Chiefs at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
“Tickets for the semifinals will be available at Ticketpro outlets nationwide for R80 each. The PSL will provide further updates on ticket availability soon,” said PSL in a statement.
THREE-PEAT GLORY: PIRATES TARGET NEDBANK CUP HISTORY
Pirates are eager to make PSL history by securing a third consecutive Nedbank Cup title, a feat that would serve as a fitting farewell to departing head coach Jose Riveiro. The latter’s exit at the end of the season was confirmed by the Soweto giants on Thursday.
Riveiro’s troops advanced to the Nedbank Cup semis via a 5-4 penalty shootout win against SuperSport United, following a 2-2 draw in 120 minutes. Pirates are also in the Betway Premiership title race with Sundowns and hold a 1-0 lead in their CAF Champions League quarterfinal against MC Alger, with the second leg at Orlando Stadium playing just four days before their Gallants match.
On the other hand, Sundowns reached the Nedbank Cup semifinals with a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United. Like Pirates, the Tshwane giants also have a midweek Champions League quarterfinal second leg tie, traveling to Tunis to tackle Esperance on Tuesday with a 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi are targeting the Nedbank Cup to end a nearly decade-long trophy drought. They also face the challenge of securing a top-eight finish in the Premiership, a feat they failed to achieve last season.
