Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson has shared his analysis of the club’s defensive flaws, echoing concerns about the team’s alarming number of goals conceded.
Amakhosi’s defensive performance has come under intense scrutiny after letting in 28 goals across 23 Betway Premiership matches.
Dove, who recently returned from an extended injury layoff, did not hesitate to address the issue, pinpointing specific areas where the team requires significant improvement. Chiefs’ defensive struggles have hindered their league progress, causing them to remain in eighth place for an extended period.
Amakhosi are scheduled to face TS Galaxy in their upcoming fixture. The match will be crucial as they look to finish in the top eight. It is set for the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday at 19h00.
The 30-year-old Mozambican international emphasised the necessity of collective responsibility in addressing these defensive shortcomings.

“Defending doesn’t start at the back,” Dove told journalists. “It’s a whole unity problem. There are things that we need to fix, starting from the front to the back.” The Mambas defender believes that defending begins with their attackers pressing opponents and returning to assist the team defensively.
“When we concede goals, not only defenders concede goals, but the whole team. So I think it’s something that we need to fix as a unit, not as a department.”
He added that the team must “take things one game at a time.” Dove also stated that they must capitalise on their scoring opportunities to win games.
“We have conceded silly goals sometimes, but we choose not to focus much on what we can’t control anymore. I mean, all the games are gone. I feel like the most important thing is us focusing from now going forward, minimise our mistakes and making sure that whenever we get a chance to score.”
Chiefs have collected 29 points from 23 games and will be desperate for maximum points when they face The Rockets. They will be looking to avoid finishing outside the top eight for the second successive season.
