‘They saw us as a relegation team’ – Arthur Zwane

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has discussed how the team has grown in the last few months since he, along with previous co-coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi, took the reins.
The pair was appointed in October last year following the dismissal of Pablo Franco Martin. The team had an impressive start under the joint leadership of the two coaches.
However, the co-coaching arrangement changed in February when Vilakazi resigned, with Zwane assuming sole leadership at Usuthu.
Zwane believes that the team has shown improvement since they took over, noting that it was perceived as a relegation-threatened side at the time.
Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Zwane believes their recent slump prevented them from being in the top three. The KZN side currently sits seventh in the league standings with 33 points after 25 matches.

ZWANE BELIEVES USUTHU SHOULD BE IN TOP THREE IN THE STANDINGS
“When the season started, at some point people saw us as a relegation team, but now, we have failed in five attempts to be in position three, five attempts,” said Zwane.
“So you can imagine if we took advantage [of our previous games], we’re talking probably six points. Those six points would have secured us in the top three spot right now. So, I always believe that certain things that happen are for a reason. And we are learning every day because the game is a teacher, and our players as well are growing in stature from situations like these.
“And also giving some of our youngsters the opportunity to grow because of the investment of the club. So, we’re just hoping for the best and hope that we will be able to grind results.”
In their next Betway Premiership match, Usuthu will face off against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday, 19 April at 8 PM at the Danie Craven Stadium.
