Survival fight: Spurs see revival, Kruger earn crucial points
Cape Town Spurs have boosted their relegation survival hopes and moved out of the danger zone with a draw against Leruma United, while the title-chasing Kruger United FC claimed a crucial win.
The Cape Town-based side played to a 1-1 draw against another relegation-threatened team, Leruma United, in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at Athlone Stadium on Friday.
It was Spurs’Â second successive stalemate after playing to a 1-1 draw against Kruger United last weekend at home. With only six matches left before the end of the season in the NFD, CT Spurs are facing a difficult battle to avoid relegation.
The Urban Warriors are sitting 14th on the log-standings with 24 points after winning five league games, drawing nine, and suffering 10 defeats in 24 matches.
Spurs are one point adrift of Venda FC, who are positioned 15th on the table with 23 points, while Leruma United are at the bottom of the table with 21 points.
Elsewhere, Kruger United claimed a crucial 2-1 win over Milford FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Mpumalanga-based side collected maximum points to push log-leaders Durban City FC in the title race.
KRUGER UNITED CLOSE GAP ON DURBAN CITY
Kruger United have collected 40 points in 24 outings to narrow the gap between them and Durban City to six points. On the other hand, the KZN-based side failed to extend their lead at the summit of the table after playing to a 1-1 draw against AmaTuks on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Black Leopards walked away with the Limpopo Derby bragging rights after beating Venda FC 1-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
