Wandile Duba makes bold Nedbank Cup promise to Chiefs fans
Kaizer Chiefs attacker Wandile Duba has made a bold promise to the Amakhosi faithful regarding the chase for the Nedbank Cup title.
Chiefs are currently facing a slump that has seen them fail to collect maximum points in the past four matches in the Betway Premiership.
The Soweto giants played to a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy in the league at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Before dropping points to the Rockets, Chiefs suffered two back-to-back defeats against Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC, with another match ending goalless against Cape Town City FC.
The inconsistent run of form has resulted in Chiefs’ struggle to solidify their position in the top eight. After 24 matches played, the Glamour Boys are sitting eighth on the log standings with 30 points, having won eight games, drawn six, and lost ten times.
Chiefs will shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup, where they’ll face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday, 13 April.
WANDILE DUBA PROMISES CHIEFS FANS TO WIN NEDBANK CUP
Duba, who scored the one goal for Chiefs against Galaxy, has promised that they’ll win the Nedbank Cup, which is the only competition that’s within their reach this season.
Meanwhile, the Naturena-based side is looking to end its long-standing trophy drought after last winning silverware in 2015.
“We wanted to win against TS Galaxy to get confidence because we know that we’re playing against the biggest team [Sundowns] next week,” Duba said on SuperSport TV.
“So I think even a draw will give us the confidence we’re looking for in the next game. I know we’ve been telling fans that we’re building, and I’m sure they’re getting tired, but the process is coming up slowly, and we promise to deliver the Nedbank Cup.”
The Brazilians have already defeated Chiefs three times this season, twice in the league and the Carling Knockout Cup semifinal.
