‘It’s out of love’ – Samkelo Zwane opens up on critics

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Samkelo Zwane has opened up on the kind of relationship he has with the club’s supporters and how he has embraced the critics.

Besides struggling to cement regular game time at the Soweto giants, Zwane is one of the fan favourites.

This is his third season with the senior team since his promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side in the 2022/23 season.

The 23-year-old has made just 30 appearances in the Betway Premiership in the last three seasons. After featuring 12 times in all competitions under Nasreddine Nabi, Zwane has had some decent performances but has also met some criticism.

HOW SAMLEKO ZWANE HAS HAD TO DEAL WITH CRITICS

“I think the relationship that I have with the supporters is that I am grateful and appreciative of the support they have shown me and the way I play football,” he said.

“I also love them. Sometimes they will criticise me, and it’s out of love. It’s not a place of hate so I can say we have a good relationship.

“When you play for Kaizer Chiefs, the pressure comes from all angles. Whether you are an experienced player or a young player, when you are wearing the jersey, you will feel the pressure. At the end of the day, we just have to do what we need to do, which is to play football.”

KAIZER CHIEFS MIDFIELDER MAKES HONEST ADMISSION ABOUT HIS PERFORMANCES THIS SEASON

“Honestly, I feel I could have done better. I could have helped the team in more aspects and shown how much I could do. I feel like I didn’t really show how much I can do,” he said regarding his performances this season.

“We are forever grateful for the supporters that we have. They always travel in numbers, even though our season hasn’t been the best. But they still show up in numbers.”
