Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe has revealed what makes the club’s DStv Diski Challenge goalie Takalani Mazhamba’s future so promising.

Mazhamba has been impressive for the DDC team, achieving eight clean sheets. He is tipped to become a star in the senior team in the coming years.

The teenager’s remarkable progress in the Chiefs’ development system has been evident. While Amakhosi has taken time to decide on promoting the 17-year-old shot-stopper to the senior team, indications are that the player is attracting interest from several clubs in the Betway Premiership.

He has represented the Under-17 national team and is currently part of coach Raymond Mdaka’s Under-20 squad for AFCON.

In a recent interview, Mathibe described Mazhamba as a “hardworking goalkeeper” with a strong desire for self-improvement. He explained why he believes the youngster has a bright future.

WHAT MAKES TAKALANI MAZHAMBA’S FUTURE SO PROMISING

Mazhamba has demonstrated the qualities of a sweeper-keeper, with impressive ball distribution.
“He’s a hardworking goalkeeper,” Mathibe told FARPost. “He wants to learn more, and he listens. I’m always telling him that hard work always pays off. If he sticks to discipline, he will go far in football.”

Mathibe, a goalkeeper coach in Chiefs’ youth structures, believes that some promising young talent goes to waste due to a lack of discipline.

“Most of the time, especially as South Africans, [lack of] discipline is the one killing us. If he remains humble and listens to the people who have experienced it [he will succeed],” he added.

“We talk daily, and I think he’s one for the future. Not for Chiefs only but for the country. That’s why he’s in the national Under 20 team.”

Mathibe is convinced that the young goalie will have made tremendous progress in his career in the next two years.
