Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has shared his views on the relegation battle involving his former club, Cape Town City FC, as the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season nears its conclusion.

Tinkler was at CT City at the start of the season before he was shown the exit door by the Cape club in December last year after a series of disappointing results in all competitions.

A few months later, in March this year, Tinkler was appointed as Sekhukhune United head coach following the sacking of Lehlohonolo Seema, who was at the club for his second stint.

The 54-year-old Babina Noko mentor returned to Cape Town to play against his ex-club and beat them 2-1 in the Betway Premiership clash at DHL Stadium on Sunday evening. So far, CT City haven’t tasted a win in their last 12 matches across all competitions.

As things stand, CT City are placed 14th on the table with 24 points after 25 games. They are just one point ahead of SuperSport United, who are in position 15 on the log standings.

ERIC TINKLER ON CAPE TOWN CITY FC’S DANGER OF FACING THE CHOP

Tinkler stated that he would not like to witness CT City relegated from the SA elite league, as he believes the PSL would not be the same without them, as they are a ‘great club’.

“Obviously, I have an affection for all the clubs that I have coached because I have been there and have experienced the people,” said Tinkler.

“Many of those people have become good friends. However, matchday is about competition and wanting to win, and that was the case [against CT City at the weekend].

“But do I want to see Cape Town City in the predicament they are in? The answer is no. I really don’t because I think it’s a great football club. Therefore, I believe the PSL would be less without them [Cape Town City].”
