‘I can’t make 5 million people happy’: Mokwena slams Wydad fans

Wydad Casablanca head coach Rulani Mokwena has slammed the club’s fans, claiming that he can’t make “five million people happy.”

Mokwena made the comments after Wydad played to a 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Raja Casablanca in a derby in the Botola Pro 1 on Saturday at the Stade Mohammed V.

The Moroccan giants have been hit by a slump under Mokwena after going five matches without registering a win in the league. Wydad have played five successive draws, which has threatened their push to finish second on the table to qualify for the CAF Champions League next season.

In 26 games played, the Red Castle is occupying third position on the log with 44 points after winning 11 times, drawing 11, and suffering four defeats.

Meanwhile, Mokwena’s charges also lost in the Throne Cup in the Round of 16 to MA Tétouan over a week ago. After missing out on a chance to win silverware in the current campaign, the highly rated mentor will part ways with his employers at the end of the season.

The former Orlando Pirates coach took over the coaching job at Wydad in July 2024 after his surprise departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

‘LEAVE ME TO MAKE DECISIONS’, MOKWENA TELLS WYDAD FANS

Rulani Mokwena has urged Wydad Casablanca fans to allow him to do his job without trying to dictate his starting line-up.

“I don’t think the changes in the team impact the results. When I play [Saifeddine] Bouhra, you don’t want Bouhra, when Bouhra doesn’t play, you’re asking where is Bouhra,” Mokwena said when asked if constantly changing the team impacts the results.

“I’m the coach, and I’m making decisions; you guys question all the time. So leave me to make decisions and die with those decisions.

“So I’m off social media, and one of the reasons I went off social media is because of the noise, and everyone has an opinion.

“There are five million Wydad fans, I cannot satisfy five million people, and I have to do what I believe is right, even if we lose the game, I have to stand for my decisions.”
