Axe falls on four Sekhukhune United players

Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United has released four players who were deemed surplus to requirements. The quartet will leave the club immediately.
This follows the recent coaching changes, with Eric Tinkler stepping in as head coach to replace Lehlohonolo Seema. Tinkler recently expressed his intention to initiate a significant overhaul of the squad.
Tinkler acknowledged the significant value experienced players like Daniel Cardoso, Linda Mntambo, and Thabang Monare have brought to Sekhukhune United. He cited their past successes at major clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
However, the Sekhukhune coach candidly admitted the squad is now facing the realities of an aging core.
“We’ve got a lot of experienced players; the likes of Cardoso, Mntambo, and Monare,” Tinkler told Radio 947. “They played at big clubs and achieved big things. So, those players have been key features and extremely valuable to the club for the past two seasons.
“But we do have an ageing squad if I must be honest; [Badra] Sangare, Mntambo, [Lloyd] Kazapua, and [Cardoso] [are old]. There are several players who are ageing, and next season, we have to start looking to build and make the team even stronger.
“It’s not that we’ve already made the decision on any of them; we haven’t made the decision on them until next season, but we need to strengthen the squad if we want to be a team that competes in the top four.”

WHO ARE THE FOUR PLAYERS AXED BY SEKHUKHUNE UNITED?
The club has let go of Kamohelo Sithole following his struggles to break into the team. The 28-year-old left winger only made one appearance this season.
Although 29-year-old right back Katlego Mkhabela has started in 12 games, he has also been shown the exit door.
Veteran midfielder Pogiso Mahlangu is also on his way out of the club. The 32-year-old has only made three appearances this season.
The fourth player to be released is 22-year-old full-back Cameron Carnell, who has made four appearances this season.
