Following his high-profile transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns in January, Jayden Adams opened up on his adaptation at the club, revealing that he is deemed ‘lazy’.
Adams signed with Sundowns from Stellenbosch FC during the mid-season transfer window in January after proving to be one of the best central midfielders in the Betway Premiership.
Before joining the Brazilians, Adams played in 139 matches for Stellies, scoring nine goals and contributing 10 assists.
The 23-year-old caught the eyes of Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos while at Stellies, and he has been a regular inclusion in the squad. Adams was also part of the Bafana squad that won the bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, the talented midfielder has quickly adapted to life at Sundowns, playing a crucial role under Miguel Cardoso. In his first few months at Chloorkop, the Cape Town-born star scored three goals and provided two assists in 17 matches in all competitions.
ADAMS FORMS A FORMIDABLE COMBINATION WITH TEBOHO MOKOENA AND MARCELO ALLENDE

After forming a formidable combination in the middle of the park with Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende, Adams has admitted he is sometimes labelled as ‘lazy’ due to his slow-paced and short passing game. However, he did not disclose who has used this description.
“I think I’m a ball player, but it was not easy for me to fit into Sundowns. You know, I think this team likes to have the ball, and we need to press,” said Adams.
“Sometimes they say I’m lazy, but I just know where to be in spaces. The team helped me a lot, especially the coach [Cardoso], who made me a different player.”
The Bafana Bafana international will be looking to help Sundowns produce positive results in the first-leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final against Al Ahly.
Masandawana are set to host the Egyptian giants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 18 April. Kickoff is 15H00.
