‘I would love to coach Kaizer Chiefs’: Former AS FAR tactician

Even though the head coaching role at Kaizer Chiefs is currently filled, a former assistant coach from AS FAR has stated his keen interest in taking charge of the Soweto giants, expressing a strong ambition to restore the club to its former glory.

The Glamour Boys have been struggling to win silverware for almost a decade after last clinching a major trophy during the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter. In that season, Amakhosi won the league title and the MTN8 trophy.

In a move to end their trophy drought, Chiefs made drastic changes to their technical team after roping in Nasreddine Nabi as the head coach at the start of the 2024/25 campaign. The Tunisian tactician joined the club with his whole technical team, signalling massive management support.

Despite bringing renewed hope to the Chiefs supporters, Nabi has had a challenging start to life in the PSL. The Soweto giants are sitting eighth on the Betway Premiership table with 30 points after 24 matches.

Chiefs are winless in their last four league matches after suffering two back-to-back defeats against Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC, while playing draws against Cape Town City FC and TS Galaxy.

The Soweto giants will face Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday, 19 April, aiming to return to winning ways. The match will kick off at 17:30.

Meanwhile, Chiefs also have a big chance of finishing the season with a trophy after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final last weekend. They will face arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 10th of May.

WHAT JAMIL BENOUAHI SAID ABOUT COACHING KAIZER CHIEFS

Former AS FAR assistant coach Jamil Benouahi has revealed what’s lacking at Chiefs and says he could turn the Naturena-based side into one of the competitive teams.

“To be honest, I’m very obsessed with a good project with a vision, so I would like to coach a team like Kaizer Chiefs,” Jamil Benouahi told FARPost.

“I mean, this is a big club, and they should be on top of the league, not where they are now. I would be happy to come, implement new things, and work on the behaviour and attitude of players.

“Once you have your players and everyone thinking the same and having the same targets, I’m 100% sure that Kaizer Chiefs will be at the top.

“I hear people saying they don’t score, but I was watching their game against Golden Arrows and the goal they conceded. You cannot concede such silly goals when you are Kaizer Chiefs, so that’s one of the things I would work on.”
