SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed a contract extension, new international buyout clause and three fresh offers for the club’s defender Ime Okon.
The 20-year-old centre-back was on trial with the Ukrainian giants, Dynamo Kyiv, in January earlier this year. He reportedly travelled to Ukraine in the first week of the year.
The potential transfer was expected to take place before the second half of the PSL season, especially given the strong impression the player reportedly made during his assessment.
However, Okon returned to the Swanky Boys after the move fell through and is about to finish his second full season with Matsatsantsa.
After the move fell through, Okon returned to SuperSport, where he is now nearing the completion of his second full season with the club.
Matthews has told this website that Okon rejected the move to Dynamo Kyiv in January.
The club’s CEO revealed that the Nigerian-South African defender has received three new offers, which the club and player will explore further in July.
Matthews also stated that Okon has signed a contract extension with Matsatsantsa that includes an international buyout clause, and they are hopeful the player will move to Europe next season.
MATTHEWS GIVES NEW UPDATE ON IME OKON’S FUTURE
“Yes, Kyiv are still keen on Ime, but he has rejected the move for now,” Matthews told FARPost.
“We have interest from 3 other European clubs – I can’t reveal names for now. But we have agreed with Ime to pursue these options in July while we focus on our end of season results.
“He has, meanwhile, extended his agreement with us by a further year with a fair international buyout clause effective July 2025. We don’t anticipate Ime playing for us next season.”
Okon moved to SuperSport in November 2022 from the amateur ranks of Gauteng’s Randburg FC and became a consistent feature for the Spartans.
He has made 53 appearances in SuperSport’s colours across all competitions, scoring two goals in the process.
