Manchester City and Liverpool are among five English clubs vying for the signature of South African wonderkid Camden Schaper.

Barely 18 months after moving to England with his parents, the 13-year-old has impressed with his performances, catching the attention of top clubs.

Man City Xtra recently reported that Manchester City officials are keen to get a head start in the race for one of English footballโ€™s most promising young talents. According to British football journalist Alan Nixon, City is looking to sign Schaper, an attacking midfield talent from Blackburn Rovers.

Despite his young age, Schaper, who previously played for SuperSport Unitedโ€™s academy, already has a contract with Adidas. Additionally, his younger brother Astin, a gifted goalkeeper, is already part of Cityโ€™s squad at just 12 years old.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT CAMDEN SCHAPER

Digital scout Prince Sobayeni, who has engaged with the player and his family, disclosed that the young talent was originally set to join Manchester United. Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring the youngster.

โ€œHe has made a huge impression in England in just over a year, attracting interest from major clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool,โ€ Sobayeni told FARPost.

โ€œThis attention stems from his exceptional abilities and impressive performances on the field, where he has scored over 40 goals this season alone. His development at the age of 13 is remarkable, and brands like Adidas began sponsoring him when he was just 12 years oldโ€”an opportunity quite rare in football.โ€

Sobayeni revealed that the youngster was โ€œinitially supposed to join Manchester United.

โ€œHowever, due to the complexities associated with big clubs in England, it can be challenging for foreign players to relocate and join a prestigious team at a young age.โ€

Given the circumstances, Camden might soon be joining one of England’s top five clubs. โ€œThis must prompt us, as South Africans, to reflect critically. Are our talents superior to those of European youth at the same age?

Furthermore, what happens after that? Take Camden, for instance, he recently relocated from South Africa and is already recognised as one of the top talents in England. Perhaps it is time for South Africa to research and explore how we can support our exceptional talents in moving overseas at a young age, similar to Camden.
