Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why defender Given Msimango was not part of the team that played against Chippa United on Saturday evening.
Amakhosi played to a goalless draw in their Betway Premiership tie with the Chilli Boys at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
In Saturday’s clash between the Soweto giants and Chippa, Msimango was absent. He has secured a starting position following Rushwin Dortley’s injury. This season, the 27-year-old centre-back has played in 11 matches across all competitions for Chiefs. The former TS Galaxy captain was replaced by Zitha Kwinika in central defence.

WHY GIVEN MSIMANGO WAS NOT PART OF THE KAIZER CHIEFS TEAM
Nabi confirmed that Msimango was left out due to an injury he has been nursing for the past two to three months. “We didn’t start with Given [Msimango]. We know that Given previously had an injury, and it has been two to three months now. It was a situation we had to manage every week,” Nabi told SuperSport TV.
“So, Given this week, we are trying to manage him to get more rest. He could have played in this game, but he is not okay. For that reason, we had to make the substitution in his position.”
WHY TASHREEQ MORRIS STARTED OVER GLODY LILEPO
The Tunisian mentor went on to reveal why he decided to start with Tashreeq Morris over Glody Lilepo, who came on in the second half of the match.
“For Tashreeq Morris, to start with the match, we saw that Glody Lilepo, in the last two or three games, his performances were not what we expected,” he added.
“So, we thought that Morris could do better than Lilepo for this match, so that is why we decided that Morris should start the game.”
As things stand, the Glamour Boys are placed eighth on the table with 31 points after 25 games.
