FCSB defender Siyabonga Ngezana has shared his insights on why more players from the PSL should consider exploring opportunities in the Romanian League.
Since joining FCSB from Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the 2023/24 season, Ngezana has been delivering standout performances in Romania’s top-flight.
Born in Sebokeng, Ngezana was in the books of Amakhosi for seven seasons after rising through the club’s development ranks, earning promotion in 2017. During his time with Chiefs, he made 126 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals, including a memorable debut goal againstย Mamelodi Sundownsย in October 2017.
Since his move to Europe, Ngezana has consistently featured in FCSB’s line-up. This season, the 27-year-old has participated in the UEFA Europa League, competing against prestigious clubs like Manchester United. Overall, he has played in 37 matches across all competitions for his club this season.
Unfortunately, Ngezana’s team was eliminated from the Europa League after a 4-0 defeat to Olympique Lyon in the Round of 16.
WHAT NGEZANA SAID ABOUT PSL STARS PURSUING MOVES TO ROMANIA

Meanwhile, the centre-back, who won a league title in his first season with FCSB has encouraged PSL players to move to Romania to open more doors for the upcoming generation.
“I think playing in Romain taught me that we’re not here for ourselves, it’s about respecting the people who are going to come after me,” Ngezana told FARPost.
“So I hope I’m giving enough inspiration to players in the PSL to look for opportunities in Romania and other European countries. As I said, I hope being here in Romania inspires players in South Africa to come also.
“There is so much talent in South Africa, and I know the players can make a big impact in this league. So I hope other players will have the courage to come here and express their talent, which will open more doors for many other players to play in Europe.”
The Bafana Bafana international also won individual awards in Romania.
