Beganovic on Vuyo Mere’s absence amidst suspension talk

Vuyo Mere and TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic in celebratory mood

TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has commented on the absence of legendary defender Vuyo Mere from the bench amidst talk that he is suspended. Mere has been the assistant coach to Beganovic since he took over the coaching reins at the club following the resignation of Sead Ramovic in November last year.

The 41-year-old, Mere, joined Galaxy in January 2022 as a player until he hung up his boots in July 2024 to take the coaching role in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] for the Rockets. This was followed by his promotion to the first team.

Mere has been absent from the Mpumalanga club for the past three weeks. The retired right-back was not part of the Rockets in their away league match against Kaizer Chiefs at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on 5 April 2025. This match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Wandile Duba finding the back of the net for Amakhosi, while Given Msimango netted an own goal for Galaxy.

He was also not part of the technical team when Galaxy suffered a 2-1 defeat to Magesi FC in their Betway Premiership tie at Seshego Stadium on Sunday afternoon. John Mokone and Delano Abrahams were on the scoresheet for Dikwena Tsa Meetse, while Kamogelo Sebelebele scored the only goal for the Rockets.

WHAT ADNAN BEGANOVIC SAID ABOUT VUYO MERE’S ABSENCE

The Rockets’ coach, Beganovic, didn’t want to divulge much about Mere’s absence from the team, citing that the legend of the beautiful game had “something to do.” Mere has since been replaced by Bernard Parker, who has been the head coach of Galaxy’s DDC side.

According to sources close to this publication, it has been rumoured that the former Mamelodi Sundowns player has been suspended from the team.

“Aah! Actually, I think he has something to do. But I think this is really not a question for me,” said the Galaxy mentor, Beganovic.

“I don’t know exactly. But I think you can talk to the team managers or somebody else within the team.”

Currently, the Rockets are placed fifth in the Betway Premiership log standings with 36 points after 26 matches.
