Chippa United have opened talks to renew the contracts for two of their key players in preparation for the next Betway Premiership season. The Chilli Boys are fighting to finish in the top eight on the league table to participate in the next season’s MTN8.
In their recent match, Chippa played to a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this past weekend. After sharing spoils with Chiefs, the Gqeberha-based side is occupying ninth position on the Premiership log with 30 points in 23 matches.
They are just one point behind the Soweto giants, who currently sit eighth on the table with 31 points. As Chippa prepares for the 2025/26 season, they are in discussions with left-back Azola Ntsabo and goalkeeper Darren Johnson to finalise new contracts.
The two players will see their existing contracts with the club come to an end in June 2025. Ntsabo has been featuring regularly for Chippa in the left-back position while Johnson has been a second-choice keeper to Stanley Nwabali.
The 26-year-old defender featured in 15 matches in all competitions, scored one goal, and provided two assists. On the other hand, the former Cape Town Spurs goalie has played two matches.
AGENT GIVES DETAILS ON THE FUTURE OF DARREN JOHNSON AND AZOLA NTSABO

Ntobatsi Mesegela, the agent of Ntsabo and Johnson, has revealed that Chippa has expressed their desire to offer their clients new contracts.
“Chippa United have opened talks with us to discuss contract renewals for Darren Johnson and Azola Ntsabo,’ Masegela told FARPost.
“I think the two players are in future plans for Chippa United, and that’s why we have been discussing the new contracts.
“Azola Ntsabo has been key for the club in the left-back position. I mean, we saw that he won the Goal of the Month for March, and with Darren, he has been playing second choice to Nwabali, but whenever he’s on the pitch, he always does the job.
“So if all goes well in the coming weeks, the two players will commit to new contracts because they are valuable at the club.”
